MHS matmen manage win over Mooseheart

Mendota’s wrestling team picked up one win in a triangular meet at Plano on Nov. 29.

The Trojans edged out Mooseheart, 33-30. Tony Aughenbaugh picked up a pin win and Logan Eppard won by decision, while Ty Connelly, Dylan Davidson, Jason Needs and Arturo Serrano each won by forfeit.

The host Reapers took out the Trojans, 60-18. Aughenbaugh and Serrano both pinned their opponents, while Connelly won by forfeit.

Mendota also battled Dwight and fell by a 30-18 count. Eppard and Serrano posted pin wins, while Dominic Shankle won by decision.

Five Trojan wrestlers competed in the Seneca Tournament on Dec. 2.

Aughenbaugh had the most success on the day, placing second in the 126-pound weight class. He scored a pair of pins and 9-0 decision win in his first three matches before falling by a 5-1 count in the championship bout.

Serrano posted a 3-2 record and took fourth place at 285 pounds, while Needs won two of five matches and finished fifth at 160 pounds.

Davidson (145) and Shankle (152) both had 1-2 records in the tournament.

Mendota dropped both ends of a triangular meet with Stillman Valley and Princeton on Dec. 4 at the MHS gym.

Stillman Valley scored a 57-18 triumph over the Trojans. Mendota got three pin wins from Aughenbaugh, Needs and Serrano.

Against Princeton, the Trojans put up a good fight but were beaten by the Tigers, 42-27. Aughenbaugh, Shankle, Needs and Eppard all pinned their opponent, while Serrano claimed a win by decision.
