MENDOTA – The Mendota varsity golf team finished second in a triangular meet with Three Rivers Conference foes Riverdale and Erie-Prophetstown on Aug. 31 at the Mendota Golf Club.
Riverdale had all of its golfers either shoot in the 30s or 40s and finished with a team score of 150 to defeat the Trojans (177) and E-P (200).
Ethan Hanaman and Clay Buffington each carded a 42 to pace Mendota. Drake Dennis checked in next with a 46, followed by Logan Brandner with a 47, Dom Stamberger with a 50 and Cale Strouss with a 55.
Riverdale’s top two golfers had rounds of 33 and 36.
Mendota came out victorious in the junior varsity match with a 186. Riverdale ended with a 200 and E-P had a 230.
The Trojans’ Liam McGann claimed meet medalist honors with a 44. Also on the lineup card for Mendota were Owen Aughenbaugh (46), Braden McPheeters (48), Jack Mikolasek (48), Jacob Ensor (50) and Evan McPheeters (53).

The Trojans had an easy time in dispatching Rock Falls, 170-208, on Sept. 2 at the Mendota Golf Club.
Hanaman led the way for Mendota with a 40 to capture meet medalist honors. Brandner was just one shot off the pace with a 41, while McGann finished with a 44 and Buffington had a 45. Aughenbaugh (49) and Stamberger (49) rounded out the Trojan lineup.
Mendota’s junior varsity carded a 193 compared to a 215 for Rock Falls.
MHS’s Braden McPheeters was the medalist with a 46. Also finishing their rounds in the 40s were Dennis (47) and Ensor (49). Evan McPheeters (51), Strouss (52) and Mikolasek (52) also competed for the Trojans.
A group of five MHS freshmen played along in the JV meet and had a 212 to win over Rock Falls’ junior varsity. On the lineup card for the Trojans were Cayden Escatel (46), Jace Baird (47), Haden Shakespeare (56), Sam Christmann (63) and Ella Betz (63).
