MHS golfers post wins over 3 foes; fall to G-K

Mendota swept Byron in all levels of golf on Sept. 5 at the Mendota Golf Club.

The Trojan varsity squad fired a 182 to sink Byron by 11 strokes.

Taylor Joyce paced the win for Mendota with a 41 to garner meet medalist honors. Three Trojans tied for the second best score with 47s – Zeke Hessenberger, Sam Becker and Austin Robinson. Mason Schuhler was next with a 49, while Colton Scheppers had a 55.

Mendota’s junior varsity team shot a 194 to win handily over Byron (215).

Jack Beetz led the charge for the Trojans with a low score of 47. Owen Wixom and Tony Aughenbaugh were each one shot back with 48s, followed by Tristan Joyce (51), Eli Otterbach (53), Lane Howard (55) and John Buchanan (58).

Mendota won the freshman-sophomore match by forfeit, however, seven players still played 9 holes. They included Mateo Escatel (59), Shea Doughty (65), Aaron Reddin (65), Luke Ross (67), Kody Becket (67), Noah DeLong (70) and Blake Thompson (70).

The Trojans continued their winning ways when they shot a 176 to take down Rochelle (177) and Amboy (191) on Sept. 6 at the Mendota Golf Club.

Hessenberger turned in the low score for the Trojans with a 43. Taylor Joyce and Robinson were one stroke back with 44s, while Schuhler shot a 45 and Becker carded a 48. Scheppers (50) rounded out the MHS squad.

Garrett Glossner of Rochelle was the meet medalist with a 36.

Mendota’s junior varsity squad fired a 183 to easily outdistance Rochelle (243).

Wixom and Otterbach shared medalist honors with rounds of 44. Also competing for the Trojans were Tristan Joyce (46), Beetz (49), Aughenbaugh (51) and Howard (52).

Mendota divided up two teams in the freshman-sophomore meet, with the Purple defeating the Gold, 247-262.

Playing for Purple were Ross (56), Escatel (57), Reddin (63) and Thompson (71). Competing for Gold were DeLong (58), Buchanan (61), Doughty (70) and Becket (73).

Genoa-Kingston got the best of the Trojans, 191-196, on Sept. 11 on the Cogs’ home course.

Hessenberger had the low round for Mendota with a 46. Robinson was next with a 48 and Otterbach supplied a 49. Completing the Trojan lineup were Taylor Joyce (53), Schuhler (53) and Wixom (59).

Mendota’s junior varsity team shot a 193 to easily defeat Genoa-Kingston (268).

Playing for the Trojans were Scheppers (45), Tristan Joyce (49), Beetz (49), Aughenbaugh (50), Howard (51) and Buchanan (62).
