MHS girls sweep Rockford Christian

MENDOTA – The Mendota Lady Trojans won a double-header over Rockford Christian in Big Northern Conference softball action on May 1 in Mendota.

The Lady Trojans took game one, 9-0. The game was stopped after 4 ½ innings.

Mendota plated five runs in the second inning with Anna Bokus’s two-run double being the big blow. Alex Barrera and Jenna O’Donnell had RBI singles in the frame.

The Lady Trojans added three runs in the third when Kassidy Barkman ripped a one-out double and scored on a single by Paige Manning. Bokus delivered a run-scoring double and Eve Herbert singled in a run.

Mendota completed the scoring in the fourth when Jenna O’Donnell clouted a solo home run.

The Lady Trojans finished with 10 hits.

Manning was outstanding in the circle in firing a two-hitter. She walked just one and struck out eight.

The Lady Trojans cruised to an 18-4 win in game two. The contest went four innings.

Mendota scored 16 of its runs in the opening inning when it sent 19 batters to the plate. The Lady Trojans had five hits in the inning, received eight walks and had three batters hit by a pitch. Mary DeFore and Emma Boatman each had two-run singles in the frame, Emily Elwell had a two-run double and Reiss Buettner singled in a run.

For the game, Mendota (11-14, 9-7) collected 10 hits, drew 11 walks and were hit by a pitch eight times. DeFore finished with three singles.

DeFore also got the pitching win, allowing six hits and four runs over four frames. She struck out three and did issue a free pass.
