It was a good start to the season for the Mendota High School girls’ soccer team as it handled Indian Creek, 4-1, on March 12 at the MHS field.
The Lady Trojans held a 3-0 lead at halftime as Amellia Bromenschenkel, Isabella Tolentino and Tanya Rosas scored goals. Assists went to Tolentino, Madison Bean and Piper Artman.
Mendota made it 4-0 in the second half when Artman converted on a corner kick.
Indian Creek avoided the shutout when it scored at the 76-minute mark.
Bianca Espinoza was in goal for the Lady Trojans.

Mendota made it two wins in a row with a 6-3 verdict at Rochelle on March 19.
The Lady Trojans wasted little time in getting on the board when Bromenschenkel took a long pass from Artman and booted in a short goal just 11 seconds into the match.
Artman went solo for Mendota’s next goal with a free kick at the 29:45 mark, and then just four minutes later, Tolentino made it 3-0 off an assist from Esmeralda Perez. Mendota carried a 3-0 lead to intermission.
The Lady Trojans added three more goals in the second half, starting with another goal off the foot of Tolentino with the assist going to Artman to expand the lead to 4-0.
Mendota tacked on two more goals – one from Perez and the other from Daisy Arteaga (Artman assist) – while Rochelle score twice late in the contest.
Espinoza was between the pipes for Mendota.
