MENDOTA – Soon after the opening tip, Mendota took control and romped over Genoa-Kingston, 58-25, in a Big Northern Conference varsity girls’ basketball game on Jan. 7 at the MHS gym.

The Lady Trojans sprinted out to a 14-1 lead on their way to a 22-5 advantage after one quarter. The count stood at 38-11 at halftime and 55-15 after three. The running clock was utilized the entire fourth frame.

“We did an awesome job right from the tip on defense,” stated Mendota coach John Hansen. “We pressured G-K into a lot of turnovers and did a great job turning them into buckets. I thought we moved the ball really well and I was proud of our intensity.”

Amellia Bromenschenkel led the attack with 24 points, 20 rebounds and five steals. Jaelyn Fitzgerald and Daisy Arteaga both dropped in 10 points, while Fitzgerald picked off six boards and Jenna O’Donnell delivered four assists.
