MENDOTA – Mendota knocked the softball all around and out of the yard in rolling to a 17-0 victory over North Boone in Big Northern Conference action on May 7 at the MHS field. The game was stopped in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.
The Lady Trojans lashed 18 hits and scored in every inning. Emma Boatman’s RBI single in the first got things started for Mendota.
Mendota batted around in the second inning and put five runs on the board. Brittany Menzel and Brandy Delao both singled ahead of a three-run homer by Morgan Marquis. Alex Barrera followed with a single, stole second and scampered home on a double by Rylee Klema, then Jenna O’Donnell delivered a run-scoring single.
The hit parade kept on marching for the Lady Trojans in the third inning when they sent 13 batters to the dish and eight of them scored. Marquis singled twice in the frame and drove in three runs, while Reiss Buettner had a two-run single. Larkin O’Donnell also had an RBI single in the inning and Klema walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run.
Mendota completed its scoring in the fourth when Boatman clobbered a three-run homer to drive in Paityn Barkman and Klema, both of whom had singled.
Three-hit performances went to Marquis (home run, two singles, six RBI) and Menzel (three singles), while Klema (single, double), Boatman (home run, single, four RBI), Delao (two singles) and Larkin O’Donnell (two singles) each had two safeties.
Klema fired a two-hitter to pick up the win. She walked three and struck out seven.
Mendota concluded the regular season at 18-9 and the conference campaign at 11-6.
