ROCKFORD – Mendota’s cross country runners took to the Fuller Forest course in Rockford for a meet with six other teams on Sept. 4.
In the girls’ race, the Lady Trojans finished fifth in the team standings. Winnebago took the top spot, followed by Genoa-Kingston, Pecatonica-Durand and Lanark Eastland. West Carroll placed behind MHS, while North Boone and Stockton did not post a team score.
Devin Wade was the top finisher for Mendota in 20th place overall with a time of 16:52. Also competing for the Lady Trojans were Jesenya Avila (33rd, 18:24), Piper Artman (34th, 18:30), Gabrielle Brown (39th, 19:09) and Jacqueline Keeton (50th, 22:45.)
Natalia Martino of Winnebago won the race in a time of 12:57.
Winnebago also grabbed the top spot in the team standings of the boys’ race. The rest of the field in order of finish included North Boone, Genoa-Kingston, West Carroll, Pecatonica-Durand and Mendota.
Andrew Stamberger led the Trojan harriers with a 30th-place finish in a time of 14:25. Trent Stamberger was just one second behind in 31st, followed by Ty Connellt (34th, 14:37), Hunter Siebert (63rd, 20:12) and Malte Hein (64th, 20:35).
Winnebago’s Devin Tervelt was an easy winner in a time of 11:05.
