MHS continues soccer domination

Mendota pulled away in the second half and defeated Yorkville, 5-1, in varsity boys’ soccer action on Sept. 11 at the MHS field.

The Trojans’ Yahir Diaz scored the only goal of the first half. Yorkville tied the score early in the second half, but Mendota tallied four consecutive goals to claim the victory.

Diaz finished with pair of goals for Mendota, while Rafael Romero, Jose Ruiz and Isaac Guzman had one apiece. Assists went to Johnathan Cortez (two), Jasiel Watson (one) and Izaiah Nanez (one).

Manny Trejo was between the pipes for the Trojans and had six saves.

The Trojans posted another shutout on the season, this time at Streator, 7-0, on Sept. 13.

Diaz led the attack with three goals, while Cortez added two, and Romero and Iker Landeros had one apiece.

Mendota (12-0) has 10 shutouts on the season and has scored 76 goals compared to just two for the opposition.

The Trojans were 2-0 winners in the junior varsity contest.
