MHS boys race to triangular victory

MENDOTA – Winnebago and Hall high schools sent runners to Lake Mendota on Sept. 26 to compete against host Mendota High School.

The Trojan boys won the triangular with 32 points to top Hall’s 44 and Winnebago’s 56.

David Lyons of Winnebago took first-place honors as he traversed the 2.95-mile course in 18:15. A pair of Hall runners grabbed second and third place.

Mendota had the next three runners through the chute with Andrew Stamberger in fourth place with a time of 18:53, Trent Stamberger in fifth place at 19:17 and Alex Hermosillo in sixth with a clocking of 19:38.

Additional Mendota runners were Dagen Setchell (19:59, 8th), Billy Hall (20:01, 9th), Ty Connelly (20:09, 11th), Eli Arjes (20:14, 12th) and Rose Fouke (23:30, 20th).

In the girls’ race no team scores were recorded, as Winnebago was the only school to field a complete team. 

The top finish belonged to Winnebago’s Natalia Martino, who finished the course in 18:21.

Mendota’s finishes belonged to Nataliya Durbin (15th, 25:37), Jamie Dooley (16th, 25:39), Alayna Nosalik (17th, 25:45) and Val Valdes (18th, 28:26).
