MHS boys, girls both finish 5th in Ferris Invite

PRINCETON – Mendota took its boys’ and girls’ track & field teams to Princeton for the Ferris Invitational on April 16.

The Trojans scored 90 points and finished fifth in the team standings. Rock Falls claimed the top spot with 229 points, followed by Princeton (200), Kewanee (190) and Hall (178). St. Bede was last with 62 points.

Mendota’s best finish on the day went to the 4x100-meter relay team, which placed third with a time of 46.6. Competitors were Cody Jenner, Emiliano Arteaga, Chris Sandoval and Eddy Sandoval.

In the girls’ competition, the Lady Trojans were also fifth out of six teams with 101 points. Leading the pack was Rock Falls with 252 points, followed by Hall (184), Kewanee (153) and Princeton (105). St. Bede was sixth with 97 tallies.

Abby Phalen turned in Mendota’s only first-place finish with a distance of 32-8.25 in the triple jump. She also took second place in the long jump at 15-0, while Morgan Gonda was runner up in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.7.
