MHS art students featured at “Second Friday at Westclox” on Feb. 8

PERU - The public is invited to attend three free arts events during “Second Friday at Westclox: Time for Music and Art” on Friday, Feb. 8. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. and takes place at the Westclox building on U.S. Rte. 6 in Peru.

The Second Friday events are sponsored by North Central Illinois (NCI) ARTworks and Music Suite 408. The program will include:

  • Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra (IVSO) Young Performers Honors Recital – 6 to 6:30 p.m., 408 Fine Arts Factory. The IVSO recital features students selected for runner up & honorable mention performances at the Young Performers Competition in January. Free-will offerings accepted.
  • Art Exhibit – Mendota High School Students - 6 to 8:30 p.m., Fine Arts Factory Paintbox. Brock Sondgeroth, art educator. Light refreshments; free-will offerings accepted.
  • Musical Performance by Victor Raul - 7 to 9 p.m., Westclox ARTworks Center. A program of original songs and acoustic guitar carry the audience through the story of the artist’s life.


Music Suite 408 opened in 2012 with six educators and 80 students. The enrichment center of the Illinois Valley now also includes the 408 Fine Arts Factory and The Paintbox, and now has 26 educators, more than 700 students and 8,000 square-foot space offering music instruction, art and photography classes, art exhibits, Lego class, camera club, outreach master classes, camps and workshops.
