Mendotans excel for IV YMCA Dolphin swim team

MENDOTA – The Illinois Valley YMCA Dolphin swim team took 34 swimmers to the IL YMCA state swim meet March 15-17 in St. John, Ind. The ILVY Dolphins finished eighth out of 43 teams.

Two members of the ILVY Dolphins are Cole Zimmerman and Quinn Eddy of Mendota. Zimmerman competed in the 400 IM where he swam a personal best 4:43:71 earning him a 15th-place finish, 200-yard backstroke where he swam another personal best 2:07:24 earning him 16th place, and the 100-yard backstroke again swimming a personal best earning him 24th place. He was also on two relay teams - the 200-yard freestyle relay that earned ninth place and the 200-yard medley relay that earned 12th place. 

In February, Zimmerman again represented Mendota High School at the IHSA Sectional Swim Meet held in East Moline. He competed in the 100 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle and set new personal best times in each event.

Eddy competed in the 25-yard freestyle where he swam a personal best 17.19 earning him 15th place. He competed in the 25-yard backstroke where he swam another personal best 20.18 seconds earning him another 15th-place finish. Eddy also swam the first leg, backstroke, in the 100-yard medley relay where the team reached the podium and earned a sixth-place finish. He also was in the 100-yard freestyle relay.
