Mendota to pay tribute to its fallen war heroes

MENDOTA – The Mendota Memorial Day Program will be held Monday, May 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Restland Cemetery Memorial Gardens, Mendota. The Veterans’ Memorial Council, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4079, its Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 540 will be participating.

These organizations welcome everyone to this service for the purpose of honoring and remembering all veterans – resting on domestic or foreign soil – for their commitment and unselfish contribution to our present way of life with liberty and freedom for all.

The program schedule is as follows:

  • Opening Address by Master of Ceremonies: Bill Hunt
  • Presentation of Colors/Raising of the Flag: Veterans’ Memorial Council
  • National Anthem: Mendota Alumni Band
  • Invocation: Associate Pastor Jay Miller, Victory Baptist Church, Mendota
  • Musical selection: Mendota Alumni Band
  • Address: Chief Thomas Smith, Mendota Police Department
  • Roll Call of Deceased Veterans since last Memorial Day: Harold Olsen
  • Laying of the Wreaths: VFW Post 4079 Ladies Auxiliary
  • Firing of the Volley: Veterans’ Memorial Council
  • Taps: Veterans’ Memorial Council
  • Benediction: Associate Pastor Miller
