The Mendota girls’ tennis team opened the new season with a 4-2 setback at Dixon on Aug. 21.
Picking up wins for the Lady Trojans were the doubles teams of Paityn Barkman-Bradyn Chandler and Pearl Taylor-Reiss Buettner.

Mendota competed in the Sterling Newman Tournament on Aug. 25 at Sterling. The Lady Trojans finished sixth in the eight-team tournament with 13 points. Belvidere and Newman were the co-champions with 25 points apiece.
Both of Mendota’s singles players – Hannah Ambler and Dasie Newkirk – finished in seventh place in their bracket, as did the doubles team of Barkman-Chandler. Mendota’s other doubles team comprised of Emma Boatman and Gillian Sondgeroth made it to the championship match where they were beaten by a duo from Sterling Newman.
