LA SALLE - A Mendota High School student, Jacob Stohr, will be one of eight teens recognized during the second annual North Central Illinois (NCI) ARTworks Mad Hatter Ball.
“The centerpiece of our annual arts celebration will be honoring eight local high school students who are outstanding in the visual or performing arts,” said Chris Coughlin, president of NCI ARTworks. “We also will have the pleasure of experiencing their inspired vocal, instrumental and dance performances and visual arts displays during an exciting evening of music, art and merriment.”
The honorees include Jacob Stohr, vocalist, senior, Mendota; Macy Anderson, vocalist, sophomore at LaSalle Peru; Téanna Cattani, visual artist, junior, Hall; Alina Johnson, oboist, junior, Streator; Cori Lindig, vocalist, junior, Ottawa; Brody Snook, guitarist, senior, Ottawa; Natalie Suarez, dancer, senior, home school; and Jessica Znaniecki, flutist, senior, LaSalle Peru.
Local celebrity and actor Greg Tullis will reprise his role as the Mad Hatter host, introducing performances, leading the Parade of Hats hand-crafted by local artists, and crowning the “Queen of ARTS.” The event also will feature music by Sean Walsh and LaSalle Dance Center dancers, a DJ, food stations, cash bar, balloon prize pop, games, raffles, prizes, and more. Fancy dress is not required but fancy hats are encouraged.
Coughlin said three candidates are vying for the “Queen of ARTS” crown. The winner will be the candidate with the greatest number of votes. Voting will begin on Aug. 28 and close on Sept. 27. Voting can either be done online or by ballot provided by the candidates. The Queen of ARTS will be announced at the event.
“This truly will be an evening of inspired art - with a splash of whimsy - to celebrate the arts and support arts programming and activities for all ages in all of our communities,” Coughlin said.
The Mad Hatter Ball will take place on Friday, Sept. 28 at Celebrations 150, east of LaSalle. The public is invited to attend.
Tickets can be ordered online at www.nciartworks.com and purchased at A&B Paint Supply, 1321 Wenzel Road, Peru; Janko Realty, 2011 Rock St., Peru; and Music Suite 408, 408 Fifth St., Peru.
