Mendota resident to run for states attorney

Todd Martin

MENDOTA - Todd L. Martin has announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for LaSalle County State’s Attorney in the March 2020 primary election. Martin announced his candidacy on Sept. 24 at the Mendota VFW Hall.

Martin has 25 years experience as a lawyer and previously served LaSalle County as the Chief Deputy State’s Attorney in charge of violent crime and as the County Attorney. He was also an associate with the Herbolsheimer, Lannon, Henson, Duncan and Reagan Law Firm when they represented LaSalle County in insurance defense related matters. Martin has a broad background in both criminal and civil law and a strong knowledge of governmental law.

Martin has received recognition from the LaSalle County Board, the LaSalle County Insurance Trust as well as local police departments and the Illinois State Police. He believes that the state’s attorney has the duty to fairly and justly prosecute crime as well as diligently represent the county in civil matters. To that end, Martin will bring 25 years of experience coupled with common sense to ensure that all matters prosecuted have been fully and effectively investigated prior to being charged.

Martin will streamline the felony review process as well as effectively use the offices’ resources to assist police during their investigations. He will also rebuild relationships with local police to ensure that there is confidence in decisions that are made by the office. “I believe that the role of the states attorney is to keep county residents secure both from crime and financially as taxpayers,” he said. “I am the only candidate who has the necessary experience and ability to accomplish this task. A good prosecutor knows when not to charge crimes because of the lack of evidence. Experience does matter.”

Martin was born and raised in Mendota and graduated from Mendota High School. He received an Associate of Arts from Illinois Valley Community College, a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University, and a Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Martin lives in Mendota and has two children.
