LA SALLE - Dori Thompson of Mendota will be among the award recipients at the Third Annual Omni Honors Awards Gala on Sunday, April 29.
Hosted by OmniArts in Starved Rock Country, this year’s recipients include area artists, musicians, dancers and arts educators who will be honored for excellence in the arts. Thompson, a painter, therapist and educator, will receive the Visual Arts Award of Excellence. Other awardees include Dave Roden of Princeton, actor, director and educator, and Sue Williamson of Ottawa, educator and drama director, who will both receive the Drama Award of Excellence; Sue Gillio of Peru, musician and educator, Music Award of Excellence; Vicky Benac of LaSalle, teacher and choreographer, Dance Award of Excellence; Bill Myers of Ottawa, educator, storyteller and actor, OmniArtist Award of Excellence; BJ Muus, educator and choral director at Ottawa High School, Lifetime Achievement Award of Excellence; and Ray MaKeever, educator, musician and band director at Ottawa High School, Golden Arts (Posthumous) Award of Excellence.
The gala will take place at the Oak Ridge Golf Course Ballroom in LaSalle. Doors will open at 1 p.m. for a silent auction followed by the awards ceremony at 2 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a cash bar will be available. Reservations are requested by April 22 at www.OmniArts.org.
Proceeds from the gala will benefit the OmniArts program. In the past six years, OmniArts has awarded over $80,000 in support of local schools, community theatres, symphonies and other art-centered non-profit organizations.
