Mendota man arrested for burglaries to vehicles


MENDOTA – A Mendota man was charged with two offenses after police officers investigated burglaries to motor vehicles on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26.

Anthony J. Kaufman, 42, of 507 ½ 15th St., Mendota, was charged with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and two counts of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Mendota Police Department into a complaint of burglary to a motor vehicle in the 1200 block of Susanna Street at 11 p.m. Dec. 25. Upon further investigation into several other burglaries to motor vehicles during the early hours of Dec. 26, Kaufman was arrested and charged.

The subject was transported to the Mendota Police Department, and after the booking process, he was transferred to the LaSalle County Jail.

The Mendota Police Department appreciates the help of community members for their vigilance and information that was provided during this investigation. If the reports of suspicious activity were not reported and if it were not for the quick action of the officers on the scene, the suspect would not have been apprehended as quickly.
