Mendota JFK attends national dance competition

MENDOTA – Mendota Just For Kix recently participated in the Just For Kix Together We Dance National competition in Rochester, Minn. April 27-29. The competition was made up of over 785 performances, 4,300 dancers and roughly 14,000 spectators at The Mayo Civic Center in downtown Rochester.

Teams from all around the Midwest competed throughout the three days in 145 total divisions. There are five classes: Wee (2nd and 3rd graders), Mini (4th and 5th graders), Middle (6th and 7th graders), Junior (8th and 9th graders) and Seniors (10th-12th graders).

Friday kicked off the weekend with 174 solo and group performances in Jazz, Lyrical, Tap and Hip Hop. The day ended with the Senior Showcase which consisted of 33 teams competing in a Kick competition. Of those 33 teams, 14 made the finals and the top 7 were awarded.

Other weekend highlights included the 8th-12th grade Hip Hop Showcase which was a crowd favorite. There were 16 teams of which 7 made the finals and 4 were awarded. At the annual Just For Kix Senior Recognition, founder Cindy Clough recognized all 277 high school seniors that completed their season at Just For Kix.

Throughout the weekend Mendota Just For Kix proudly took home 1st place in Junior Hip Hop, 2nd place in Junior Lyrical, and 2nd place in the small group competition with members including Maren Wise (choreographer), Lauren Dalton, Allison Stewart, Lilly Newkirk and Molly Saylor.
