MENDOTA - The 63rd Annual Graduation Concert, featuring the Mendota High School Band, will be held on Tuesday, April 30. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Mendota High School Auditorium.

Musical selections include a medley of famous Hollywood movie themes, a beautiful rendition of the spiritual “Wayfaring Stranger” and the Chaminade Concertino, which will feature senior soloist Mia Artman on flute.

Additionally, the band will perform Aaron Noe’s “Oh, Freedom!” which is a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The MHS Band performed this piece earlier this month at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Park in Atlanta, Ga. as a part of their 2019 Performance Tour.

The Graduation Concert is the last performance by the 2019 senior band class, which includes Madison Ansteth, Mia Artman, Madison Bean, Katie Beetz, Gabrielle Brown, Fabian Gomez, Becca Hadley, Brooke Lee, Dasie Newkirk, Allison Olczak, Leslie Rivera, Dylan Saylor, Jenna Stanford, Jacob Stohr, Pearl Taylor, Garrett Ward, Lydia Willis, and Katherine Wohrley.

In addition to recognizing this year’s seniors, Mendota High School Directors Chris Dortwegt and Lori Schrock will present end-of-the-year awards, including the Oris Setchell Elias Scholarship, John Becker Memorial Award, and the prestigious John Philip Sousa Award.
