AMBOY – The Mendota boys’ cross country team competed in the Amboy Columbus Day Invitational on Oct. 11 at Shady Oaks Country Club.
Five Trojans were entered in the race and Anthony Kelson was first among them to cross the finish line in 32nd place with a time of 17:27.4. Next in was Alex Hermosillo in 46th place at 17:52.7, followed by Andrew Stamberger (97th, 19:23.2), Dagen Setchell (98th, 19:29.2) and Travis Mumm (161st, 25:59.3).
Mendota finished 15th in the team standings with 358 points. The top 10 teams were Amboy (93), Monticello (101), Elmwood (115), Aurora Central Catholic (171), Eureka (186), Rock Falls (188), Sterling Newman (212), Franklin (220), Kankakee Bishop McNamara (229) and Seneca (299).
Mason Stoeger of Minonk Fieldcrest was the individual champion with a time of 15:21.2. There were 166 runners in the competition.
Mendota did not have any entries in the girls’ race.
Lianna Surtz of Aurora Rosary was the individual champion with a time of 17:30.7. There were 181 runners.
The top 10 teams were Winnebago (50), Eureka (73), Aurora Rosary (87), Elmhurst Immaculate Conception (106), Monticello (108), Rock Falls (196), Seneca (232), Elmwood (270), Tremont (271) and Sherrard (285).
