Mendota golfers have succes against Stillman Valley

Mendota’s varsity golf team went up against last year’s Big Northern Conference co-champion Winnebago and the Indians prevailed, 157-169, on Aug. 21 at Westlake Village in Winnebago.

Zeke Hessenberger had the low score for MHS players with a 40. Taylor Joyce and Colton Scheppers were right on Hessenberger’s heels with a 41 and 42, respectively. Rounding out the scores were Ethan Hanaman with a 46, Austin Robinson with a 47 and Jack Beetz with a 47.

Marcus Smith of Winnebago was the medalist with a 35.

Winnebago shot a 197 to claim the junior varsity match over Mendota, which carded a 208.

Noah DeLong’s 49 led the Trojans, followed by Tristan Joyce with a 51 and Luke Ross with a 52. Shea Doughty (56), Lane Howard (59) and Liam McGann (63) also competed for Mendota.

The Trojans got back on the winning track by shooting a 170 to roll over Stillman Valley by 15 strokes on Aug. 23 at the MHS course.

Taylor Joyce was the meet medalist with a 41. Scheppers was a close second with a 42, followed by Hanaman (43), Hessenberger (44), Robinson (49) and Beetz (51).

Stillman Valley’s junior varsity team defeated Mendota, 212-226. The Trojans’ freshman-sophomore squad also competed and totaled a 230.

Ross posted the low score for the JV team with a 51, followed by DeLong (57) and Tristan Joyce (58). Completing the lineup were Howard (60), Kevin Lewis (61) and Gabe Arteaga (68).

Mendota’s freshman-sophomore players consisted of Logan Brandner (51), Kody Becket (56), McGann (59), Mateo Escatel (64), Doughty (65) and Aaron Reddin (71).
