Mendota rolled to a 176-194 victory over Rockford Lutheran in varsity boys’ golf competition on Sept. 22 at the Mendota Golf Club.
Ethan Hanaman kept up his consistent play by leading the Trojans with a round of 40, which was also good enough for meet medalist honors. Clayton Buffington turned in a solid round of 42 for Mendota, while Jack Beetz and Logan Brandner each had a 47. Drake Dennis (49) and Mateo Escatel (54) completed the card.

Mendota traveled to Rockford to take on Rockford Christian on Sept. 23 and the Royal Lions dealt the Trojans a 165-171 setback.
Hanaman and Beetz paced Mendota’s attack as each fired a 40. Also competing for the Trojans were Buffington (43), Brandner (48), Dennis (51) and Liam McGann (51).
Andrew Heinisch of Christian had the low score of 39.
The junior varsity match was a tight one with Christian edging Mendota, 196-198.
Mateo Escatel and Dominik Stamberger each carded a 49 for Mendota’s low scores. They were one shot off the medalist pace. Owen Aughenbaugh and Cayden Escatel were next for the Trojans with 50s, followed by Braden McPheeters (51) and Kody Becket (55).

The Trojans went up against a tough Ottawa team and dropped a 163-166 decision on Sept. 24 at the Mendota Golf Club.
Beetz had the low score for Mendota with a 40 and tied Ottawa’s Drake Kaufman for meet medalist. Hanaman was close behind with a 41, followed by Brandner at 42 and Buffington at 43. Mateo Escatel (45) and McGann (54) also competed for MHS.
Ottawa claimed a five-stroke victory in the junior varsity match, 182-187.
Becket and Aughenbaugh turned in Mendota’s low scores, each with a 46. The rest of the Trojan lineup consisted of Stamberger (47), Dennis (48), McPheeters (48) and Cayden Escatel (59).

Mendota hosted nine other teams in the Mendota Modified Ryder Cup event on Sept. 26 at the Mendota Golf Club.
Morris claimed the team title with a score of 227. Princeton finished second with a 237, while Ottawa (238), St. Bede (242) and Stillman Valley (246) rounded out the top five. The rest of the field in order of finish included LaSalle-Peru (247), Mendota (254), Hall (262), Rock Falls (305) and Kewanee (305).
Beetz and Hanaman teamed up for the Trojans and took fourth place with a 74. Also competing for Mendota were the tandems of Brandner-Buffington (84) and Mateo Escatel-Becket (96).
A pair from Morris took top honors with a 73.
