MENDOTA – Mendota enjoyed winning its first-ever regional softball tournament title last year so much that it thought it would do it again this year. So, the Lady Trojans came back from a three-run deficit with a late-inning charge to take out the Orion Chargers, 8-4, to claim the Mendota Class 2A Regional Softball title on May 20 at the MHS field.
The win propelled the Lady Trojans (14-16) into the Orion Sectional where they are scheduled to play Big Northern Conference foe Winnebago at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 at Orion. Mendota and Winnebago split their two meetings during the regular season with Winnebago winning the first game 14-9 and the Lady Trojans taking the second game 13-11.
The other sectional game will pit Three Rivers Conference members Princeton against Sterling Newman at 4:30 p.m.
The winners are scheduled to meet for the sectional title at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 24.
