PENDLETON, Ind. – The Mendota Junior Softball all-stars saw their season come to an end after losing two of three games in the Junior League Softball Central Regional in Pendleton, Ind. Mendota played one game on July 19 and two games on July 20.
The Mendota all-stars started off the tournament with a 17-7 loss to Zionsville, Ind. The game was halted in the sixth inning when Zionsville pushed across two runs to make it a 10-run margin.
Mendota scored three runs in the first inning, while Zionsville answered with a seven-run first. Mendota added two more runs in the second, but Zionsville pushed across three runs in the second and kept adding to its lead thereafter.
The Mendota all-stars actually outhit Zionsville, 15-14. Katie Jenner had three singles for Mendota, while two-hit games went to Macy Pizano-Olson (two singles), Maddy Dalton (two singles), Emma Schultz (two singles) and Ryleigh Sondgeroth (single, double). Zoe Hanson picked up a triple.
Mendota used three pitchers in the contest, starting with Dalton. Sondgeroth and Pizano-Olson also pitched.

Mendota’s offense came alive late in the game en route to a 12-2 victory over South Milwaukee, Wis., in the first of two games on July 20.
The game was tied 1-1 heading to the fourth when Mendota exploded for six runs to take control. The all-stars followed that up with a five-run fifth to end the game by the 10-run rule.
Mendota’s 13-hit attack was led by Jenner and Dalton, who both singled and doubled twice. Pizano-Olson delivered a double and a triple, while Sondgeroth singled and doubled. Maddie Becker helped out with a double.
Sondgeroth stifled South Milwaukee on a five-hitter. She allowed one earned run, struck out four and walked one.

Mendota concluded play with a 19-4 five-inning setback to Edwardsburg, Mich.
Edwardsburg had two huge innings in the game, scoring nine runs in the third inning and tacking on eight more tallies in the fifth.
The Mendota all-stars scored two runs in the first and added single runs in the fourth and fifth frame.
Mendota collected five hits, with multi-hit games going to Dalton (single, triple) and Schultz (two singles).
Dalton pitched the first two innings, while Sondgeroth also worked two innings and Pizano-Olson had one inning in the circle.
