MENDOTA - Maurice L. Olson, 95, of Mendota died April 27, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Sandy Smith officiating. Burial will take place at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 at the funeral home.
Maurice was born July 20, 1922 in Nettle Creek Township, Grundy County to Oliver and Edith (Wagner) Olson. He married Winifred Walker on Feb. 28, 1960 in Rochelle. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2001.
Survivors include one son, Kent (Kara) Olson of Ottawa; two daughters, Karen (Stephen Martin) Smith of Coral Springs, Fla. and Karol (Will Vaughn) Hindle of Utica; seven grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Olson, Jacob (Megan) Hindle and Wyatt Hindle, Valerie Harris and Carter Buck; a great-granddaughter due in July; one brother, Otis Olson of Novi, Mich.; three sisters, Eleanor Zimmerlein of LaMoille, Doris Johnson of Baraboo, Wis. and Marilyn (Raleigh) Shifflette of Mendota; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Smith of Steward.
Maurice graduated from Mendota High School in 1940 and was a lifelong farmer in Ophir Township. He was a member of the Triumph Methodist Church, Waltham Curling Club, Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.
