Sterling Newman and Oregon got the best of the Mendota Trojan wrestlers in a triangular meet at Sterling on Jan. 9.

Against Oregon, the Trojans were beaten by a 33-10 count. Jason Needs picked up the only match win for Mendota when he decisioned his opponent at 152 pounds. Quentin Bailey won the other match by forfeit at 220 pounds.

Mendota picked up a pair of pin wins in a 36-12 setback to Newman. Bailey and Arturo Serrano (285) posted victories for the Trojans.

Five MHS wrestlers competed in the Amboy Varsity Tournament on Jan. 13. Three of them finished in third place and two of them took fourth place.

Tony Aughenbaugh finished third in the 120-pound category. He posted a 2-1 record with two pin wins and one pin loss.

Logan Eppard took third at 170 pounds, winning and losing a pin, and capturing a decision win.

The other third-place finish went to Serrano at 285 pounds. He pinned two of his opponents and lost via pin.

Needs (152) and Bailey (220) each won one of three matches and placed fourth in their weight class.
