MENDOTA - The primary focus of Mendota Area Senior Services (MASS) is the health, safety and welfare of older adults, disabled clients and staff. In light of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, MASS is making several key changes in the way their services are provided.

Currently, transportation services will continue to operate during normal business hours. They ask that people please stay home unless it is absolutely necessary. MASS understands this is an uncertain time, and they are available to assist clients in getting to crucial appointments and to grocery stores and pharmacies. They will also partner with the local grocery store to provide free home delivery of groceries.

Under direction from the Illinois Department on Aging, MASS has closed its senior center to all group activities. They will assist with Medicare, Medicaid and benefit access BY PHONE only. Please call (815) 539-7700 for assistance. All Outreach activities have been halted except in-home assistance on a case-by-case basis.

Older adults are at a higher risk for severe illnesses. Please follow the CDC’s recommendations of washing your hands, social distancing, and non-essential trips. Fear and anxiety about COVID-19 may cause increased stress and strong emotions. If you, or someone you care about, are feeling overwhelmed with emotions like sadness, depression or anxiety, MASS is there to help. Please contact them at (815) 539-7700, 1-800-535-5970 or e-mail massinc78@yahoo.com. They are available to help people access resources or just to have someone to talk to.

Grocery delivery, transportation to stores
