CEMENT CITY, Mich. – Marvin “Butch” Swope, 86, of Cement City, Mich., and formerly of Compton, passed away Feb. 26, 2023, at Victorian Villa Assisted Living in Jackson, Mich.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Jeff Brace officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral.

Marvin was born Nov. 24, 1936 in Compton, to Wendell and Elizabeth (Kehm) Swope.

Marvin is survived by his sons, Rickie Swope of Cement City, Mich., Lonnie Swope of Dowelltown, Tenn., and Jerrie Swope of Jasper, Mich.; his brother, Donald “Doc” Swope of Compton; sister, Marilyn “Toots” Ehlers of Princeton and longtime companion, Betty Fry of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lavila Archer and his brothers Elroy Swope and Jerroll Swope.

Marvin was a farmer and a master journeyman in machinery repair and HVAC.
