EARLVILLE - Marion J. Wald, 90, of Earlville passed away Jan. 11, 2019 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17 at Rollo Congregational United Church of Christ, 2471 Weddell St., Earlville with Rev. David Marquardt officiating. Burial will follow at Stevens Cemetery, rural Earlville. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville.
Marion was born Dec. 6, 1928 in Sandwich to George and Laura (Wilkening) Grandgeorge. She married Lyle Wald on Sept. 24, 1960 at Union Presbyterian Church in Sandwich.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years; four children, Bryan Wald of Earlville, Bradley (Sherif Tawfik) Wald of Portland, Ore., Ronald Wald of Earlville and Randall (Jackie Mascenic) Wald of Sycamore; two sisters, Lucille Mickey of Garden Prairie and Evelyn (Jack) Smith of Sandwich; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marion was a 58-year member of Rollo Congregational United Church of Christ in rural Earlville, where she was a longstanding member of the women’s fellowship, and also was a member of the Rollo/Shabbona Chapter DeKalb County Home Extension. She was employed as a registered nurse at Prairie Crossing Living and Rehabilitation Center in Shabbona for 37 years, retiring in 2008 at the age of 79. After retirement, she was awarded the Hero in Long Term Care by the state of Illinois Healthcare Association and the Illinois Counsel of Long-Term Care. She was passionate about nature, flowers, gardening and birds. Her boys were her world, and she enjoyed spending time and traveling with her sisters, with whom she was extremely close. Family was everything to Marion and she loved traveling to visit those she loved, be it to the West Coast or once, even overseas.
Memorials may be directed the family to be divided amongst Marion’s favorite charities.
