MENDOTA - Peru Federal Savings Bank became a “Campaign-Launching Sponsor” of The Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley “March To A Million” campaign. The one-time campaign has begun at www.1mil.org.

Relay For Life of Upper Illinois Valley (RFLUIV) had humble beginnings its first year with a small event in Earlville in 2010. Drawing upon a dedicated group of cancer-fighting volunteers and benefitting from the care and generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations in the Illinois Valley area, RFLUIV quickly grew into a phenomena of healing.

Once ranked fifth in the nation from over 5,700 events based on surveys of participants, RFLUIV has raised just over $875,000 in its time. The March To A Million campaign aims to break the $1 million mark in conjunction with the event’s 10th year anniversary in July of 2019. The event will take place at Lake Mendota park and serves Peru, LaSalle, Oglesby, Mendota, Ottawa, Dimmick, Earlville and the surrounding communities.

Peru Federal Savings Bank was the first organization to answer the call for launching sponsors to super-charge the campaign with generous initial donations and sponsorships. “To reach this goal, we will need a compassionate and generous community response, such as this wonderful kick-off contribution from Peru Federal,” said campaign chairperson Mitch Landgraf, a Mendota resident and Peru native.

Eric Heagy, President of Peru Federal Savings Bank in Peru commented, “In our ongoing dedication to community banking, we are honored to be a launching sponsor of this worthy cause. I encourage our business peers and community members to be ‘one in a million’ by supporting the campaign.”

Area residents, businesses, and organizations can donate, learn about the campaign, or sign up to participate at www.1mil.org. Sponsorship and other inquiries may be e-mailed to rfluiv@gmail.com. Cancer information and access to free services and supports to any Illinois Valley community member are available 24/7 in any language at 1-800-ACS-2345 or at www.cancer.org. The event’s website is www.relayforlife.org/uivil however, supporting the event through this campaign is most easily accomplished via www.1mil.org.
