The Trojans hung with Rockford Lutheran for three quarters, but the Crusaders pulled away in the fourth for a 56-44 win on Feb. 15 at the MHS gym.
Lutheran doubled up Mendota, 16-8, after the first quarter, but Mendota clawed its way back to trail by just four (27-23) heading to intermission. The Trojans continued their comeback in the third period and actually overtook Lutheran after three, 38-37. But Mendota’s offense went cold in the fourth frame as it was outscored, 19-6.
Joel Escatel knocked down three three-pointers on his way to a team-leading 15 points for the Trojans. Eddie Perez also hit double figures with 11 markers, while Emiliano Arteaga had eight tallies.
