MENDOTA - Luis Castaneda, 94, of Mendota passed away Feb. 15, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Public visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 at the Wasmer Funeral Home. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mendota with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family.

Luis was born Aug. 15, 1926 in Atolinga, Mexico to Dionecio and Solada (Arteaga) Castaneda. He married Maria Auxillo Arteaga on May 10, 1950 in Atolinga.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Auxillo of Mendota; four sons, Francisco (Margarita) Castaneda, Juan Antonio (Eva) Castaneda and Margarito (Candida), all of Mendota, and Salvador (Maria P.) Castaneda of Franklin Park; two daughters, Josefina (Ignacio) Arteaga and Rosy (Jose Martin) Arteaga, both of Monmouth; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Jovita Castaneda and Florina Castaneda; one son, Doroteo Castaneda; one granddaughter, Florina Arteaga; his parents; one brother, Ausencio Castaneda; and three sisters, Elodia Castaneda, Librada Castaneda and Consuelo Castaneda.

Luis was a cattle farmer his whole working life. He was a faithful member of Holy Cross Church.
