MENDOTA – Lorraine T. Henkel, 98, of Mendota passed away Aug. 7, 2017 at the Mendota Lutheran Home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation was from 4:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Schwarz Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Bobby and Brad Weber, Greg and Chad Hahn, Jake Henkel, Derek Schlesinger, Brenda Deery, Cathy Sheaves, Kim Antkowiak and Kendra Preston.

Lorraine was born Jan. 11, 1919 in Troy Grove to Benjamin and Mary Ellen (Granfield) Hochstatter. She married Robert Henkel at St. Peter and Paul Church, Peterstown on Jan. 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Henkel of Mendota; five daughters, Pam Henkel of Mendota, Maureen (Bob) Weber of Sublette, Sue (Lindy) Hahn of LaMoille, Jeanne (Gale) Schlesinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Shelly Henkel of Mendota; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Mary Rita) Hochstatter of Mendota and foster brother, Rich Milazzo of Mendota; and two sisters, Celeste Schmitt of Mendota and Jeanne Hochstatter of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; nine brothers, Curtis, Benny, Marty, Wilmer, Harold, LaVerne, Raphael, Greg and Norbert; and three sisters, Bernice Killelea, Marilyn McInerney and Pat Love.

Lorraine was a 1937 graduate of Mendota Township High School. During her working career, she was a sales clerk for Gish’s and also worked at Conkey’s and First State Bank. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Church and belonged to St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society.
