Looking up at the eclipse

Posted

MENDOTA - Students at Holy Cross School put on their safety viewing glasses and look up to the sky on Aug. 21. In northern Illinois, approximately 90 percent of the sun’s surface was covered by the moon at around 1:20 p.m. The rolling cloud cover cleared throughout the eclipse to offer students glimpses of the unique phenomenon. The Aug. 21 eclipse marked the first time a total solar eclipse has crossed the United States from coast to coast since 1918. The school provided glasses to students in grades 4-8 and gave parents of younger students the option to view the eclipse with their child at school. (Reporter photo by Jennifer Sommer)
