PERU - Horizon House’s annual Road to Independence campaign is off to a strong beginning thanks to a generous lead gift of $5,000 from The Miller Group Charitable Trust presented by Miller Group Media President, Joyce McCullough.

“This generous donation has set the pace for what promises to be a fruitful campaign,” said Jen Radtke, chairperson of the campaign. “Our goal for this year’s campaign is to raise $105,000.”

Dan Fitzgerald, CEO commented, “This year Horizon House is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Miller Group Media has been a strong community partner of ours throughout our history. They have been generous contributors but more importantly, they have helped educate our community to better understand people with disabilities which is vital to our mission. This gift demonstrates their commitment to Horizon House and the people we support.”

For 50 years, Horizon House has provided high quality, effective supports with compassion, expertise, flexibility and creativity to people with disabilities and their families. Horizon House listens to the people they support, they learn from them and let their needs and wants guide their services. They support people with disabilities to create and live the lives they choose.

The Road to Independence campaign is divided into three phases. The first phase is the inner circle phase in which contributions are solicited from staff, board members, committee members and families of people served by the agency. The second phase is the Tree of Hope campaign that is held in December and continues until early January. The third and final phase is the Face-to-Face portion that utilizes community leaders as volunteers to request donations for this year’s annual campaign.

“Every year I am amazed at the outpouring of generosity from this community,” said Carol Fesco, Horizon House’s Director of Development. “We have a great team of volunteers that donate their time and energy to Horizon House and I am confident we are going to have a successful campaign again this year with their help.”
