Consistency has been the norm lately for the Mendota Trojan golfers and it was again during a home match with North Boone on Sept. 19. The Trojans had no problem in dispatching the visitors, 169-208.

Consistency has been the norm lately for the Mendota Trojan golfers and it was again during a home match with North Boone on Sept. 19. The Trojans had no problem in dispatching the visitors, 169-208.

Mendota’s Zeke Hessenberger claimed meet medalist honors with a 41. He was one stroke better than teammates Taylor Joyce and Austin Robinson. Mason Schuhler checked in next with a 44, followed by Sam Becker (47) and Owen Wixom (51).

Mendota’s junior varsity and freshman-sophomore squads went up against North Boone’s JV team and the Trojan JV squad shot a 190 to come out victorious. North Boone totaled a 228 and the Mendota F-S squad had a 231.

Trojan JV players Colton Scheppers and Eli Otterbach shared medalist honors with 47s. Tristan Joyce and Tony Aughenbaugh were next with 48s, followed by John Buchanan (52), Jack Beetz (53) and Lane Howard (56).

Kody Becket’s 56 was the low score for the MHS F-S team. Also competing were Noah DeLong (57), Mateo Escatel (59), Shea Doughty (59), Aaron Reddin (60) and Luke Ross (62).

Mendota had its second hole-in-one of the season, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a strong Ottawa team, which shot a 168 compared to a 173 for the Trojans on Sept. 21 at Ottawa.

Otterbach scored the ace for the Trojans on the 135-yard Par 3 No. 6 hole at Pine Hills. He used a pitching wedge to pull off the feat. Otterbach led the Trojans with a 41, tying him with two Ottawa players for meet medalist honors.

Next in for Mendota was Robinson with a 42, followed by Taylor Joyce and Becker, both with 45s. Schuhler ended with a round of 46, Aughenbaugh had a 49, Wixom shot a 50 and Hessenberger totaled 51 to round out the scoring.

Ottawa also claimed the junior varsity match with a team score of 187. Mendota’s total was 204.

Scheppers and Tristan Joyce led the way for Mendota with 49s. Also competing for the Trojans were DeLong (53), Howard (55), Beetz (58), Ross (59), Buchanan (59) and Escatel (61).

Mendota hosted 11 other teams in the Ryder Cup on Sept. 23 at the Mendota Golf Club. Rock Falls won the event with a 229, followed by Morris (236), Princeton (242), Ottawa (244), St. Bede (247) and Bureau Valley (248). The bottom half of the standings included Putnam County (249), Mendota (255), LaSalle-Peru (258), Stillman Valley (259), Newark (265) and Kewanee (269).

The Trojans’ top finishing pair was Schuhler and Wixom in 15th place with an 81. Taylor Joyce and Hessenberger came in 17th with an 82, while Robinson and Otterbach took 32nd with a 92.

The top finish went to the Putnam County pair of Caleb Dzierzynski and Ben Cyr with a 69.

Rockford Christian had two golfers shoot in the 30s and defeated the Trojans, 160-178, on Sept. 25 at the Mendota Golf Club.

Taylor Joyce carded the low score for Mendota with a 40. Robinson (44) and Hessenberger (45) were next for the Trojans, followed by Wixom (49), Schuhler (51) and Becker (52).

Mendota’s junior varsity and freshman-sophomore teams played, but Rockford Christian did not field full teams.

Competing for the JV team were Aughenbaugh (44), Otterbach (46), Scheppers (47), Beetz (48), Howard (53) and Buchanan (54).

The F-S team was comprised of Reddin (50), Doughty (52), DeLong (56), Ross (59), Escatel (60) and Becket (67).
