LA SALLE - Can dessert be made healthy without even realizing it? Discover how at University of Illinois Extension’s “Healthy Desserts” class on Sept. 20.

While most desserts are filled with loads of fat and tons of sugar, which is not good for health, with a few modifications, many desserts can be healthier and provide valuable nutrition to the end of a meal.

According to the government’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the average American eats about 17 teaspoons of sugar every day. Cakes, cookies and pies all contain added sugars, not to mention the extra sugar (and fat) in a scoop of ice cream added on top. Instead of giving up these favorite foods completely, this class will explain how to make small changes that will lower the sugar and fat content.

Join U of I Extension Educator, Susan Glassman on Thursday, Sept. 20 and learn to create delicious, healthy desserts. The class will take place at the Extension Education Center and Community Teaching Kitchen, 944 First St., LaSalle.

To sign up, please call Extension at (815) 224-0889 or register online by Sept. 17 at https://go.illinois.edu/healthydesserts.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate or need more information, please contact Glassman at the number above.
