UTICA - LaVern “Skip” N. Klinefelter, 79, of Utica died peacefully Feb. 11, 2020 in his home surrounded by family.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17 at Waltham Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joel Stevenor officiating. Private burial will be at Waltham Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16 at the church and for one hour prior to services.

Skip was born Dec. 15, 1940 in Mendota to Lawrence and Marion (Christofferson) Klinefelter. He married Joan Frey on April 24, 1965 in Mendota.

Survivors include his wife of Utica; three daughters, Tracy (Mark) Kolczaski of Burlington, Wis. and Wendy (Tom) Olivero and Marcie (Jim) Holland, both of Utica; five grandchildren, Jake, Ryan and Abby Kolczaski and Noah and Neil Olivero; two sisters, Joan Kulpa of Utica and Bonnie Klinefelter of New York, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Frey; two brothers-in-law, David Setchell and Chuck (Margy) Frey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marilynn Setchell; two brothers-in-law, Jack Kulpa and Clayton Frey; and one nephew, Greg Frey.

Skip was a 1958 graduate of Mendota High School. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1964-1969. He was a petroleum salesman for 43 years and retired from Northern Partners in 2007. He served on the Waltham School Board and was a 50-year member of the Waltham Curling Club and Mendota Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling in northern Wisconsin and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Memorials may be directed to Waltham Presbyterian Church or the donor’s choice.
