LA SALLE - Join NASA Solar System Ambassador James Joel Knapper as he assists the public in touring the night sky during a Star Party to be held at Rotary Park in LaSalle. Hosted by the LaSalle Public Library, the evening event will take place on Saturday, June 12 from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Stargazing has been around since humans first looked up. Whether you are an amateur astronomer or someone who just wants to enjoy the stars and planets and learn a bit about them, the LaSalle Public Library’s Star Party will be a fun opportunity close to home. Telescopes will be available for observation, as well as astronomy binoculars. Red flashlights, used to maintain night vision, as well as planispheres and tablets with night sky apps will be available to locate objects, constellations, asterisms and planets.

The Star Party is a free, family-friendly event open to the public. All city park rules will apply and masks will be required for all who attend. Registration is required. To sign up online go to https://bit.ly/3upDRgS. Registrants will receive additional information at the e-mail they provide after registering. If there is inclement weather, the Star Party will be cancelled.
