OGLESBY - The LaSalle County 4-H Advanced Robotics Club, Team Machination 6994, had a successful showing at the Illinois FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Regional Robotics competition held this month at Illinois Valley Community College.
Team Machination won four of their five matches and had one score that was the highest for the day. Overall, the team placed first and will move on to the Feb. 10 competition at the Western/Central West League Tournament, which will take place at Manual Academy, 811 S. Griswold St., Peoria.
FTC is designed for youth who wish to compete head to head, using a sports model. Teams of up to 15 students are responsible for designing, building and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using Java for Android Studio or Java based MIT App Inventor.
The teams, which include coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategies and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for robot performance as for well as for community outreach, design and other real-world accomplishments.
