OTTAWA - The 2019 LaSalle County 4-H Show and Junior Fair, “Saluting 4-H in America!” is gearing up for a great 4-H exhibit show along with honorary recognition of our veterans and currently serving military. LaSalle County 4-H and Junior Fair welcome all veterans and military to free admission, by showing their military ID, on Thursday, July 11.
The fair will run from Thursday, July 11 through Sunday, July 14. The schedule for 2019 includes:
Thursday, July 11 - The event kicks off at the LaSalle County fairgrounds located on 4-H Road on the south side of Ottawa.
4-H clubs will be busy completing projects and cleaning up the fairgrounds in preparation of putting on a great exhibit show. “Saluting 4-H in America!” will reflect our 4-H members’ focus and hard work on their project exhibits and also represent the many service learning and community activities the 4-H members participate in.
Judging will start on non-livestock projects. This includes everything from aerospace to zucchini. There will also be cake decorating, dog show and a Style Revue event of 4-H clothing projects. New entertainment this year includes Cluetopia Escape Rooms where folks can challenge their skills in escape activities. The Chicago Honey Bear Dancers will lead interactive fun dancing and singing with the crowd. Nighttime entertainment includes the Broken Horn Rodeo.
Friday, July 12 - Swine, horse, poultry, and dairy shows begin in the morning with the sheep and cat show in the afternoon. The public speaking contest, “Speak Out!” will be held at 5 p.m. on stage in Exhibit Hall 3. The Illini State Pullers, Truck & Tractor Pull will close the evening events starting at 7 p.m. and include a seed auction during intermission. Proceeds of the auction will support Friends of Extension and 4-H and the Junior Fair Association.
Saturday, July 13 - The beef and rabbit show starts the morning events with the beef showmanship following. Many fun activities and events will take place throughout the day including Funny Magic Guy, who will provide three shows throughout the afternoon, Ameren “Touch a Truck” and an exciting scavenger hunt throughout the fairgrounds. The evening will offer a Fair Auction at 4:30 p.m. in the show arena, sponsored by Friends of Extension and 4-H. Numerous items will be available for bidding and proceeds will benefit LaSalle County 4-H programming. Evening entertainment will be the Ramer Race Promotions Demolition Derby at 7 pm.
Sunday, July 14 - The horse and goat show begins at 8 a.m. and the ADM Master Showman contest will begin at 10 a.m. in the Show Barn. The Parade of Excellence, which takes place at 2:30 p.m., will provide 4-H members a chance to showcase their outstanding projects and highlight any special awards they have received. At the close of the fair, the projects are released at approximately 4 p.m.
Bring the family and come out to see the fabulous projects young people from all over the county have completed, see all the animals, enjoy good food and have a great time at the fair.
