LA MOILLE - LaMoille’s Pack the Park Committee hosted a “Paws in the Park” fundraiser on May 18 at the LaMoille Village Park. Among the activities, dog-owner duos played musical chairs at the fund-raising event to benefit the park shelter. Other upcoming events will include a September movie night, “Trunk or Treat” on Halloween, and a “Lights in the Park” Christmas tree lighting in December.
Plans are also underway for a “Raise the Shelter” park fundraiser, and the “Recycle + Reuse = Relax” park bench project, which is currently accepting recycled plastic donations. For every 500 pounds of recycled plastic, one bench will be made. For more information about the recycling project or to drop off items, contact Jayme Reed at [email protected].
Gracie, a 14-year-old Australian German Shepherd, was honored as the “Most Senior” dog at LaMoille's “Paws in the Park.” Owner Ginny Shaw contributes Gracie’s long life to taking three walks a day, up at 5 a.m. each day. Gracie has great intuition and can detect when a family member has an impending illness. “She will stick by your side and sure enough, within 2-3 hours, the family member has a fever or symptoms of an impending illness,” Shaw said.
Gracie also has the ability to let herself out and will do anything to get you to play ball with her.
Madden, owned by Kurt Wright, won “Smallest Dog” (over one-year-old) in LaMoille’s “Paws in the Park” contest. Other award categories included youngest dog, oldest dog, largest dog, best trick, best costume, and owner look-alike. (Photos contributed)
