Lady Trojans take 3rd in two home meets

MENDOTA – The Mendota Lady Trojans competed on their home track for the first time this season when they hosted five other teams on March 27.

LaSalle-Peru claimed the top spot in the standings with 143 points, followed by Putnam County with 90 and Mendota with 88. Hall (38), Stillman Valley (10) and Earlville (2) also participated.

Mendota finished first in five events. Individual top finishes went to Abby Phalen in the 100-meter dash (14.26), Teghan Tillman in the 200-meter dash (30.08) and Lauren Schimmer in the high jump (4-4).

The Lady Trojans also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. The 4x100 team of Tillman, Devin Wade, Phalen and Morgan Gonda had a time of 56.16, while the 4x200 group of Tillman, Wade, Phalen and Phalen Hessenberger was clocked in 2:02.4.

The Lady Trojans were back in home territory on March 29 as four other teams visited the MHS athletic field.

Winnebago ran away with the team title with 147 points. Streator came in second with 56, Mendota had 55, Rockford Lutheran scored 40 and Earlville had two.

Lydia Willis had the only two first-place finishes for the Lady Trojans. She threw the discus 110-1 and had a toss of 34-10 in the shot put.
