MENDOTA – Offense was hard to come by for the Mendota Lady Trojans as they dropped a 7-0 decision to Bureau Valley in a varsity softball contest on May 4 at the MHS field.
Mendota only managed four hits off of Storm freshman pitcher Madison Smith. Katie Jenner had a pair of singles for the Lady Trojans.
Paige Manning went the distance in the circle for Mendota. She allowed 11 hits, three earned runs and struck out 11. Bureau Valley’s Smith fanned 10 Mendota batters.
The Lady Trojans overcame a three-run deficit and downed Kewanee, 9-6, on May 9 at the MHS field.
Kewanee plated two runs in the first and two more in the third, while Mendota pushed across a run in the second. But Mendota rallied with three runs in the bottom of the third to knot the score, and then it scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good. Zoe Finley’s bases loaded triple was the big blow in the fourth.
Kewanee added single tallies in the sixth and seventh frames and Mendota scored once in the sixth.
The Lady Trojans collected eight hits, with Jenner (two singles), Ryleigh Sondgeroth (single, double) and Zoe Hanson (two singles) getting two hits apiece. Sondgeroth also drove in three runs.
Manning pitched a complete game for Mendota, giving up eight hits, walking one and striking out 10.
Mendota has a 9-9 overall record and a 5-6 Three Rivers Conference mark.
