Lady Trojans fall to Princeton in regional

PRINCETON – The Mendota Lady Trojans had their softball season come to a close after a 10-3 setback to Princeton in the opening round of the Princeton Class 2A Regional on May 15.

The home team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and then Mendota cut the lead in half with a run in the third. Princeton made it 6-1 in the bottom of the inning before each team scored twice in the fourth. The Lady Tigers completed the scoring with a pair of runs in the fifth.

Mendota outhit Princeton, 9-7. Five Lady Trojan errors aided Princeton’s cause.

All of Mendota’s hits were singles. Madelyn Becker and Reanna Brant had two apiece. Driving in runs were Becker, Ava Eddy and Gracie Zinke.

Eddy got the start in the circle for Mendota and worked three innings. She allowed three hits, six runs (two earned) and walked three. Ryleigh Sondgeroth closed out the game by giving up four hits and four runs (three earned). She walked one and fanned one.

Mendota ended the season with a 5-16 record.
