SENECA – The Mendota Lady Trojans had a tough day at the Seneca Tournament, dropping all three games in the round robin format on April 8.

The Lady Trojans started off with a 4-3 setback to Putnam County in which the Panthers scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull out the victory.

Mendota started the game with a bang when Morgan Marquis led off the top of the first inning with a home run. Putnam County got the run back in the bottom of the inning.

Each team scored again in the third. Mendota plated its run when Rylee Klema and Alexis Diaz ripped back-to-back doubles.

The Lady Trojans led for the third time in the game when Larkin O’Donnell reached on an error and scampered home on a single by Marquis in the sixth.

But Putnam County answered in the bottom of the frame to tie the game and then won it in the seventh.

Mendota collected five hits, while Klema allowed only four safeties in absorbing the loss. She allowed just one earned run, walked two and struck out seven.

Somonauk cruised past Mendota in the second game, 10-0. The Bobcats scored seven runs in the first inning to take control early, then won by the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Trojans managed just one hit, a single by Haylie Barrera in the second inning.

Mendota starting pitcher Ryann Avery allowed 11 hits and took the loss.

Mendota was the victim of the 10-run rule again when Seneca posted a 15-2 five-inning victory in the tournament finale.

Seneca built a 7-0 lead after three innings before Mendota got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Kathryn McNally to plate Haylie Barrera, who was hit by a pitch.

Seneca put the game away when it sent 12 batters to the dish in the bottom of the fourth and eight of them scored.

The Lady Trojans added their second run in the fifth inning on a walk to O’Donnell, a single by Alex Barrera and a run-scoring single by Marquis.

O’Donnell (single, double) and Klema (two singles) led Mendota’s eight-hit attack.

Emma Boatman got the call in the circle for the Lady Trojans (4-6) and was tagged with the loss.
