Lady Trojans close out track season in Sterling Sectional

STERLING – The Mendota girls’ track team saw its season come to a close after participating in the Sterling Class 2A Sectional on May 11.
Burlington Central claimed the team title with 112 points to easily outdistance second-place Sterling, which had 82 points. Rounding out the team standings were Belvidere (53), Plano (39), Sandwich (39), Galena (37), Rock Falls (36), Rockford Boylan (35), Genoa-Kingston (33), Dixon (30), Freeport (28), Sycamore (26), Rochelle (5) and Stillman Valley (3). Mendota did not score.
The Lady Trojans’ best finish on the day was 12th place by the 4x400-meter relay team. Kennedy Knaff, Jessica Reel, Ella Martin and Laylie Denault ran a time of 4:45.72.
In individual competition, Alexis Finley recorded a time of 2:49.91 for 13th place in the 800-meter run and was clocked in 6:59.32 for 15th place in the 1600-meter run.
Two Mendota relay teams finished in 14th place. The 4x100 relay of Martin, Knaff, Denault and Grace Wasmer had a time of 57.20, while the 4x200 relay of Martin, Wasmer, Denault and Ashley Caracheo had a clocking of 2:04.82.
