MENDOTA – The Mendota varsity boys’ basketball team lost to LaSalle-Peru and Dixon on its home court last week.

LaSalle-Peru was a 54-29 winner over the Trojans on Jan. 28.

The Cavs jumped out to a 14-7 first-quarter lead and were never seriously threatened. The halftime count stood at 25-13, then L-P went on a 17-4 run in the third period to blow the game open.

Emiliano Arteaga led the Trojans with 11 points.

Another slow start put Mendota in a bind as Dixon coasted to a 63-40 triumph in Big Northern Conference action on Feb. 1 at the MHS gym.

The Dukes doubled up the score after one (16-8) and then outscored the Trojans, 20-7, in the second stanza to take control.

Emiliano Arteaga paced the team with 13 points, while Gavin Glazebrook added 11.

It was Mendota's 10th straight loss, dropping it to 2-23 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
